10 ply. Tire Recommendations

I am not familiar with the Vredestein brand but tire rack rates the Vredestein Pinza AT higher than the Michelin Agilis Crossclimate. They also rate the Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 pretty high.

However, I am happy with the Michelins. Been to Alaska round trip on the Michelin LTX once and the Michelin Agilis Crossclimate once. I typically get about 70,000+ miles on the Michelins.

All the posts and no one has mentioned the Toyo M55. This is the heavy duty AT tire that the loggers run around here. Wears like iron and never caught a flat. Great for on road, wet or dry, grips gravel like its asphalt, works fine in snow, has the 3 mountains as well. Will pack up and slip in mud, slide about in deep hard snow. In other words, good for most of what we do with a camper on our back. I air them down to run in sand, deep fluffy snow, and rough roads.

I run 255/85/16 on a SRW pickup that weighs 9200 lbs. When they wear out, I am getting another set.

Toyo M55 are good tires that a friend of mine was pushing me to buy. Memory recall for me was they were a special order and I wanted a tire that i could possibly find at tire stores across the states. My friend was not happy with me. Good to hear your review here, thanks.

Tires are one of the few places where weight is a big consideration for me. That plus I got very poor mileage from my Toyos. Didn't try the M55s though.

Just placed order with Costco for my 2005 4 Runner tires. BFG KO3 LT265/70R17 LRE (E rated). 5 tires and 5 new TPMS sensors. One sensor the battery died two years ago, always a flashing light on the dash. $1776.58 total with sensors if you need to know.

Get them on in middle of December, so, a Christmas present to me and the Runner.

The KO2 have served me well on the 4 Runner for close to 10 years and 54,000 miles. Tread is worn even and still can go many more miles. One nail was patched. Hope the KO2 on the heavier truck get as much life and wear pattern.

I have the KO2 on the Dodge truck w/flatbed in the same size. The spare from the 4 Runner will be going on a spare rim for the Dodge when two spares are a good idea.

Got the Geolander AT G015 2 days ago and will report back one day hopefully on their wear and performance. Feels good having tread again! (especially as we just got 9" snow)

BTW While I was in the Tire shop I wandered around the stacks of different brands and noticed the Michelin Cross-Climate ... Here is a photo I took of the tread. Haven't seen such a tread pattern on a truck tire before.

I found the following comparison online.

When comparing the Michelin Agilis CrossClimate to the BF Goodrich KO3, the Michelin generally performs better in terms of overall longevity and all-weather traction, particularly in light snow, while the BF Goodrich KO3 is designed with more aggressive off-road capability, making it better suited for rough terrain and heavier mud conditions; however, it may sacrifice some on-road comfort and mileage compared to the Michelin.

The Michelin Defender LTX M/S is an E-Rated 10 ply tire and is still available. Got my first set in 2016. Put 75k miles on them then got another set in 2020 and put 75k on those. Crisscrossed the US/North America several time as well as two trips to Alaska and the Yukon from our home base in the mountains of Western North Carolina. In all that time and 150k miles camping frequently down off road paths, mud, steep inclines with a FWC Fleet Shell on the back of our 2011 Tacoma 4wd, I never thought I needed a more aggressive tread. That said, we did not do much snow driving.

I had considered the more offroad tread of the Michelin LTX A/T, but was glad I never went that route. The more aggressive tread would likely have been noisy going down the road.

Had a tree fall on our rig and total our Fleet during Helene, so went ahead and got a new 2024 Taco 4door and ordered a brand new Fleet. Will be getting a new set of LTX M/S for that rig as well.

Yeah, a 2024 Celestial Silver Metallic 4dr TRD Off-Road Taco with 6ft bed and a smooth black Fleet. A stylish sequel to the more utilitarian look of our 2011 Charcoal Gray with basic white Fleet camper.

Been enjoying the performance of the new truck and looking forward to picking up our new Fleet from Sean in Eagle, Wisconsin in April. Talk about brand loyalty, we are diehard Taco and FWC fans after 8 years of incredible road tripping!

I have Trailhunter on order but have been toying with the idea of building a camper ready rig based on the 6’ foot TRD platform with the non-hybrid motor. I’ll be curious to see how yours does performance and mileage wise with the camper.

My current rig although aging has immense power for my camper being on it but I pay dearly in mileage.
