Just got back from another 2 weeks in the Granby, about 60 days this calender year! But I want to improve the functions and install a 12v water pump but am pretty clueless:( My FWC is a 97 I think and seems to have a 12v wire in place to run a water pump so how do these work, do I need to change out my standard pump faucet or put in a switch? Does the pump come on when the faucet opens? Gracias

If your fuse block already has a spot for it, then all you need is to splice the new pump into the supply line to the existing faucet, wire up a switch somewhere close by so you can flip it on and you'll have water. Your existing faucet will just act as a spout now, no need for the pump handle. Although I suppose it would make for a nice backup if your electric pump dies while you were camping.

Congrats on the 60 days, BTW!

Basic is you install a pump in the line and need to get it power that is switchable. You can have a push button switch some where, use a shurflo faucet that has a switch built into it, foot pedal switch, etc. What is your preference.

As for wiring it up it depends on what you're starting with. Does you stock meter panel have a "pump" switch and is it wired? If not is there currently any wiring coming off the fuse location labeled pump?

So a sureflow faucet simply starts the pump automaticlly as you open the faucet? Just throw out the existing faucet and replace withthat? Sounds nicer than the switch but having the hand pump fpr the backup sounds good as well.

adding the electric water pump is pretty easy on the older models

we usually use a very simple "in line" water pump (non-pressurized)

under your sink you should see the clear water hose coming from the tank in the cabinets, up to the hand pump at the sink

find the low point and cut the hose, install the water pump there, and hook up your wires

the black wire would need to be grounded or attached to the ground on the fuse panel

the hot (red) wire would need to be attached to a toggle switch and then attached to a 12v hot wire (power source)

you can hook that up to the fuse on the fuse block labeled "water pump", that is the easy was to get the power source

hope this helps

Happy Camping !

Yeah when you open the faucet (roll the knob backwards) it click a switch and makes the circuit. I also have a master kill switch (the original stock pump switch) so that I can open the faucet w/o it pumping so I can let the line drain when I want it to do so (you could just pull the fuse if you wanted to do away with the extra switch and still drain it). The faucet runs ~$45 by the way, if you need to pump with it (which is sounds like you do) the package is about ~$90. That pump in the package is made for positive suction pressure (ie water level above it) but it will draw water from below and prime the line (max dry run time is 1min). They recommend a max distance above the lower water level be 4".

I just installed the faucet/pump in my rig and have a few pictures here:http://wanderthewest.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1789&page=6

If you want to go all out, Pods' recommendation is a good one. I have the Shurflo marine faucet/pump combo in both my campers and have installed them in a few others as well. Simple and durable.

Although the faucet installation will require building a little baseplate and some minor fab work, it's worth it in the end. Total install time is about 2 hours.

Mine included a little spacer collar that I think eliminated that issue.

It works:thumb:. I had a $25 JC Whitney 12v pump, after some probing around found the wires with juice, added a $5 led switch on the front of the cabinet (drilled a 3/4' hole for it), cut into the H2O line and presto, water flows. If the original handle is up then it pumps but no flow, pull the handle forward and a nice little stream. Thanks for the advice:D
