1977 FWC Fleet Complete Overhaul

Well after more than a year of sitting I finally found somebody to weld up the broken joints. It should hopefully be a lot stronger than it would have been, despite the long wait.

Now we are getting ready to install siding... I've ordered some that looked similar to the original from The Metal Company in Denver, and will go pick that up Friday. I still need to figure out the trim (that holds the edges of the siding to the camper) though. Specifically I'm not sure about the corners that include the wooden floorpack.

Do most people extend the siding over the edge of the wood as well as the metal frame? I feel like I'd have to, to prevent water from seeping in (especially on the road). But if I did that, the trim would need to be screwed into the wood instead of the aluminum, and I don't really like that. I'll need to think about it some more.

We've been making slow but steady progress in the last few weeks - the front wall is done and the epoxy is currently cureing for the paneling on the right side wall. We decided to bolt the siding and paneling on using the same technique as we did on the floorpack... 8-32 screws and threaded inserts. We also got pretty much the same type of trim that the camper originaly had from The Metal Company, which was nice! The screws go through the trim, siding, aluminum frame tubes, and paneling. This takes a little while to install but really isn't bad, and should be a lot easier to remove if we ever have to replace siding or anything. It feels really robust, so I'm pretty happy with it! I've also been insulating with rigid foam cut to fit between all the frame tubes.
