A Successful Hunt

Ó
Jonathan, it’s a CZ Teal in 20 gauge, 28” barrels, choked IC & M. A tad bit heavy for chasing chukar and huns, but still a nice upland gun. You can find them on sale under $500.

For the steep stuff, I prefer my Beretta Silver Pigeon 286 with 26” barrels. Or… if I want to miss with 3 shots, a Franchi Affinity 3, also with a 26” barrel, choked M. Both are 20 gauge.

So, are you a SxS guy? Gotta be careful with those double guns…?

No, I didn’t do that.

My grandfather’s L C Smith is back from the gunsmith, and with a set of Damascus barrels that are probably a couple of decades older than the shotgun when new.. The barrels are 28”, choked M/F, and chambered for 2-1/2” shells. The barrels are very tight to the action. Now if I can just find 2-1/2” low pressure shells, we will chase a few birds and hopefully put a grouse on the table.

Very Nice! What a great way to keep his memory alive.

I use to reload, There are some good forums if you Google “Shooting Low Pressure Shells in Damascus Twist Barrel’s”

I even have “modern” Winchester paper hulls, low brass base, that I use to load for my O/U while in the field, so that If some spent hulls got away from me I wasn’t leaving plastic laying around on the ground for decades.

I wish my great grandfathers Ithaca was in shooting condition, but the barrels are too badly pitted from the modern smokeless shotgun shells that became available towards the end of his lifetime

That is a fine scattergun Steve. I hope you find the shells for it soon.
