Just bought a 1999 10' CO. Its in very good shape but the mattress is lumpy and rather compressed. What are the solution folks use for the limited space in the CO for bedding. We used our Thermo-rest camping mattresses under the factory mattress but all needs to be removed to lower the top.

Any good ideas for thin but comfortable mattresses for Alaskans?

The factory mattress/pad is nice, and very good quality, but we like a memory foam mattress topper on it that we bought for it and cut to size.
We fold the topper and it rides on the dinette bench when in the rolling (down) configuration.

We are looking for a mattress for our 10' CO camper too. Brian gave us the name of the manufacturer he gets mattresses from - Hickory Springs I think - but I can't seem to locate a place to buy one. Anyone have suggestions?

Buy the mattress from Bryan at Alaskan.
I bought my 2002 CO used. It had been lived in a few years by some unknown dude, then had been used as a hunting rig for a few years by the person I bought it from. Existing fabrics were dingy.
My wife wanted both fresh mattress and upholstery, but she didn't care for Bryan's fabric options. We spent time hunting out tapestry fabric she wanted, handed the fabric off to Bryan, then his people re-upholstered our dinette, and made a brand new mattress wrapped in that fabric. She bought enough that Velcro-up flat curtains were made out of the same matching fabric, and it looks very nice, quality job, and not priced too bad. Yay, Bryan!

We have a memory foam at home and like it, so we bought and cut a memory "topper" down to fit (narrow CO bed) Very happy with the results.
Topper is folded and rides the dinette when underway.

Freebird.....pictures

sounds intriguing...and I'm getting ready to redo a 73 CO this spring...sounds like the way to go with Alaskan doing the work ;)

and the topper...the CO section is an unknown to me...having been brought up in a NCO

I'm south in my Northern Lite for now..... Alaskan is up north.
The fabric we used boils down to taste/preferences, so pictures wouldn't weigh much here, anyway.
LOTS of choices at upholstery and fabric stores. Let your lady suite herself...:)

I simply searched Amazon and found some 4" foam. I still need to get it upholstered but for now I lay a square sheet down and then a square sheet on top and it fits nicely. Easy to clean too. I may not ever upholster it at this point. It fits though and doesn't need removed to lower. For some reason I can't copy and paste a link to the one I bought. Search for 'full size 4" firm conventional polyurethane foam rv/truck mattress bed cushion'.
