Kathleen Sgamma, president of the Colorado-based oil industry trade group Western Energy Alliance, was named Bureau of Land Management director, a position with wide influence over lands used for energy production, grazing, recreation and other purposes. An MIT graduate, Sgamma has been a leading voice for the fossil fuel industry, calling for fewer drilling restrictions on public lands that produce about 10% of U.S. oil and gas.

An there goes the national forests The goal is to streamline the permitting process by salvaging more wood from forests and expand how much wood product can be offered for sale, a senior White House official said

If it was / is going in the harvest burnt an diseased trees ok. But I'm afraid they will go into old growth forest

On Saturday, Mr. Trump directed federal agencies to examine ways to bypass endangered species protections and other environmental regulations to ramp up timber production across 280 million acres of national forests and other public lands. An it starts

Oddly, his hatchet man forced a bunch of USFS & BLM folks out, so who, exactly, will be doing this examining with intent to bypass?

Blk just closed 600,000 acres .where ,San Rafael Swell! With zero input from anyone

The Dingell Act created 600,000 acres of wilderness in the San Rafael Swell, and was passed by Congress in 2019. It passed the House 363-62 and the Senate 92-8.

More recently the BLM updated their travel management plan for the San Rafael Swell which involved public input (~6000 comments received) through the process outlined in the National Environmental Policy Act. That plan resulted in a net increase of 67 miles of designated routes open to motorized travel (665 miles are now closed, 732 miles used to be closed).

The Blue Ribbon Coalition filed a suit (announced yesterday) to challenge the travel management plan, and they seem to contend that if they can't drive there an area is closed to recreation.

Trump targets two national monuments in California for elimination

President Joe Biden established the Chuckwalla and Sáttítla Highlands national monuments shortly before he left office.

I'm so so glad I'm retired! The person who filled my old position (full time perm.) was still a temp I guess and got laid off so they cannot do EA's and EIS's inhouse anymore -have to barrow from staff from other offices. I filled that slot for 25 years and retired in 05-and it has been filled full time until last month.

In the early RayGun years I had to cover my whole district (3 million plus ac,) when the guy up north left, for over a year until they turned on the money again and hired a replacement (and it was not even a RIF yet). But those people in charge back then look like rabid environmentalists and believed in the American way of doing things when compared to these clowns in charge today! Another words, back then when forced to, they did follow the law. Apparently, today, the law is what the dear leader says is the law (sorry about that political comment-better stop here before I start to rant and rave! ).

It is important to speak up, to not be silent. It doesn't do to bang our heads against a wall. Questions/questioning and humor are always good tools. Reagan was problematic, and Mr Trump and his association with Mr Musk (an immigrant) do make Reagan seem a bit more angelic. We need to choose our venues carefully, but sharing with friends (venting) is necessary too for our own sanity.
The Golden Rule is what moves humanity ahead. That doesn't preclude calling a spade a spade.
And support government workers.
