I'm up In Prineville for awhile. We drove to LAX yesterday...in the rain. Real rain. On Labor Day weekend. Very unusual for SoCal.

Rabbitbrush in bloom (this in my yard) is a sign of the season.


Rabbitbrush, which bucks the trend of the spring-blooming masses, not afraid to take its own path in its own time, solo.

Many times when I've camped in the Great Basin in autumn -- when temperatures are moderate, weather is fair and dirt roads are mud-free -- I've relied on rabbitbrush to provide splashes of color to landscapes.

We have a return to "summer" this weekend in Bend.

Good for some boaters and swimmers, I guess...but for me, even when I'm paddling my kayak, I don't need it warmer than 80.

Back to autumn seasonal temperatures early in the week.

But not quite yet... Despite shorter days, it hit 80F today here and similar highs are forecast through this weekend.

Here on the Monterey Bay we are experiencing some "now normal" HOT temps.
Yesterday in the 90s and maybe the same or higher today.
Darker mornings at least for another month then back to DST.
But winter sure is creeping closer.Funny how that happens every year about this time.
