When I first got my used Ranger I called FWC to ask if there was a problem driving with the bed fully extended. As I explained, it was easier especially when moving from campsite to campsite. Stan assured me there was no problem in doing so........

Thursday night in the Alabama Hills looking up at Mt Whitney, we popped the top and discovered that the passenger side PVC had two burn holes in it as did the mattress and.....you guessed it so did the interior light lenses. It seems that the motion of the camper on dirt roads managed to turn the intereior light on. The heat from the light did the damage. I'm greatful we didn't burn the entire rig to the ground. Need I tell you the moral?

I'm home today and tomorrow doing some emergency repairs and then off to Kofa NWR on Monday......with the bed closed!

Thanks for the heads up. To bad you had to find out the hard way! I hate it when you ask for information and then get the answer they think you want to hear. I'm a big boy now, I can take no for an answer. Good luck on the repairs.

Killing the power at the master switch is advisable while not using the camper, but I often forget to turn it off. Good to know, I would not have thought the bed could turn on that light.

The repair although not cosmetically great is working just fine. I used Gorilla tape on the outside and the inside and until I can have it done right I'll live with this. We Spent several nights in a very remote area of Kofa NWR and everything worked great. It looks like I'll be getting rid of the T-100 and picking up a Dodge 2500 diesel when we return I measured my Ranger and it will fit on the dodge. If I'm destined to get 17 MPH than at least I want the power too. The Toyota has been a great truck. It has been all over the southwest and up and down Baja many times and with only 125,000 miles on it somone else will have many more miles of good service from it.

Thanks Dog and Mike for the kind words. Were in Saguaro tonight and headed to Prescott in the AM and back in The Nard on Monday.

burn

Hi, this is marty what happened to you is very uncommon but not un heard of. what color is your side liner. i happen to have some small chunks of liner material that i would part with so you could do a good repair. i have grey that is new brown that is used and i can get a larger piece of grey if need be. this is not for money all i need is the color size of scrap and an address. you will need to locate some (VLP) vinyl leather patch. this is a clear glue thet will hold it all together. you will also have to figure out how to apply pressure from both sides of the liner until the glue dries. the vlp also works on the threads in the seams. do not post an address you can contact me via private message or my web site. if you install flourescent lights this will not happen again. thin lite makes a short double lite.
