If I recall correctly a standard bed is 6.5 feet, and the bed on something like a double cab Tundra is 6 feet. Is that correct? Did I read somewhere that ATC makes a special size for the Tundra that doesn't hang 6 inches off the back?

bed length

All of our short bed campers are 80 inches long. I don't remember the exact length of the Tundra bed but the camper hangs over about 3" if I remember right. On most of the smaller trucks the camper will overhang the bed just a little but not be out over the bumper. We just installed a Panther on a Tundra. Here is a pic of how it looks.

This Tundra is a double cab and takes a regular Panther. On a regular Tundra the bed rails and cab are shorter so we take the extra height out of the camper in the floor pack so that the camper will fit the truck correctly and not stick up above the rails and the cab to far.

FYI, the new 2007 Tundra's have a standard bed length of just a hair under 79 in. Basically, no overhang at all.

New Tundra

And they also make an 8' bed now too. I should mention though that the double cab in the picture above we are having problems with the frame on. For some reason the frame is really weak on that particular truck. It is a 2005 double cab and the customer says it tends to buck bad at speeds up to about 25 mph.

He has checked everything on the truck and finally took it to a frame specialist the other day and found out it was the frame flexing on the truck. The truck show a payload capacity well over what the camper is but it is not supporting it like it should.

We are trying to find a fix for it now, but if we can't there just might be a new Hawk for sale shortly.
