It’s that time of year… Tick Season

This morning I was in the yard pulling out an invasive weed species (White Top or Hoary Cress), and picked up a passenger. It was a Western Star tick that while not widespread in Oregon, is associated with rodents. We had a number of Voles survive winter under our snowpack, so it’s very likely they were the host species.

Don’t forget -> Check yourself for ticks when you’ve been in tall grass or brushy terrain.

Thanks a bunch. I'll be thinking ticks every time I have an itch now. I'm kind of surprised I haven't seen any yet. I stopped taking the dog into the brush a month ago. At least he gets tick repellent. I'm not quite ready to take trio simparica for myself :)

We are getting hammered here too with currently the real tiny ones up to little. Lucky we have a white dog and on average 2-3 off her daily. SOCKS OVER PANTS! One looks like a goober but it works. We started treating our summer clothes every 2 months with Permethrin. Then for the added protection and great for black flies and mosquitoes, Picaridin spray is great and no oder.

It's kinda funny, they don't like me for some reason, wife and dog get covered in em but not a tick to be found on me, same with mosquitoes, they just don't seem to bite me as much. I like to make a joke and say they go for my wife because she's so sweet and they leave my bitter ol butt alone. 😆

It probably has more to do with the cancer sadly, but whatever a guys gotta be able to laugh ya know.
