Butler Peak Fire Lookout is located in the San Bernardino Mountains between the town of Green Valley Lake and Big Bear Lake off of Forest Trail 2N13C
Built in 1936 by the CCC at an elevation of 8,535 feet, it is one of three Fire Lookouts on the Mountaintop District of th San Bernardino National Forest. The structure is a 12x12 wooden cab built directly on the rock, Hear are some pics I thought you might enjoy. The first series of pics is on the way up.

great pics, love the rig...as always, whats it look like on the inside? awesome...nuff said!

It is basically a time capsule that is still being seasonaly manned by USFS volunteer's.. It really is cool. I can't imagine how they got all that stuff up there.

Probably not helicopters in those days. I have some really good websites for lookouts if you're into that. I visit all I can around where I go. Shame so few are manned anymore.

That is one killer site! Looked up a old (1934) Fire Look Out located on Blyn Mtn. that was located just 15 miles from my neck of the woods. Really cool...:D

Craig,

Thanks for the link. I just checked out the two lookouts we've been to. Sierra Buttes and Martis Peak are great spots. The Buttes is more or less a hike to, but Martis Peak has a paved road all the way up and provides great views of the Lake Tahoe area.

I've been wanting to get up to Sierra Buttes for years. I don't know what stops me. Maybe I'll go the next time it starts to go above a 100 again.

Butler Peak was in my backyard growing up in the northern foothills of the San Bernardino Range between Apple Valley and Lucerne Valley. Explored every forest service path and cow trail on my motorcycles growing up in the 1960s. After I married I lived in Big Bear Lake for a time, my wife being a Big Bear native.
