In researching the four wheel campers, I found your site. Everyone's enthusiasum for their campers, motivated me to "get serious".
So I have the opportunity to buy a 1999 Granby for $4,000.
It appears to be in excellent condition and lightly used by the previous 2 owners. Frig, stove, sink, locker, no port a pottie space. Settes with table, all cushions are in fine shape and minimal wear. No leaks, one vent in the roof, comes with a roof rack. Both windows are fine with no leaks showing around the windows. Screen door and storm flaps included. Jack stands for off-truck storage.
This is my first purchase of any kind of RV, although I have spent the last two years researching and determining what my real needs are, and not getting "caught up" with the latest "hot" items in campers.
This Granby appears to be the match for me.
Is $4,000 a reasonable price for this camper?
Are there any specifics I should inquire or look at for this '99 model of Granby?
Other suggestions are very much welcomed.
I'm at the point where I am ready to buy, but not having done this before am looking for a reality check.

Thanks,

2003 FWC Grandby

I noticed a 2003 forsale on Craigslist (Spokane area) for only $4250! I know that's a little more than the 4k you had listed but it's 4 years newer. It looks pretty darn nice. A custom model. Check it out! Were you looking at the FWC listed in Bellingham? Also on Craigslist a loaded 2001 for $6k. Good luck with your search...captainkettel...:D

Buying used is the smart way to go. That way if the camper is not quite what you want you don't lose a lot of money. Patients will reward you with the right camper. FWC hold their value and you won't go wrong with what ever you buy. Also everything is negotiable. Except NEW FWC's.

buying a grandby

bought the grandby. :D
actually bought it in september of '06, but did not have a truck. most people thought i was pretty backward. but since the camper i wanted was more important to me than my need for a truck, i thought it prudent to buy the camper first and then "fit" the truck to my camper. the wait was worth it. found a 95 dodge 3/4 ton CTD extended cab, longbed. whew, what a TRUCK!

up here in bellingham, washington we have had a wet and fairly nasty winter, so i didn't mount the camper on the truck until today! i couldn't be more stoked. will post pics soon.

i've enjoyed and learned alot visiting this site everyday and look forward to contributing to it, now that i am more actively involved.

i am planning a trip to the olympic penninsula, and would like to camp somewhere private near the ocean. i have never been to the OP before and do not have any local knowledge (other than reading some hiking and camping books of the area). do you know of any locations that us offroad campers can spend an evening or two? any "must do" activities that you might recommend? thanks in advance.

golferguy1,
Congratulations on the camper and truck. That is the backwards way to do it but it worked :D

Post some pics when you get a chance to do some camping.

Congratulations on a fine purchase. I got my truck first only because it took so dang long to get the camper.

Congrats!

Right on! Now you just have to get campin'! Sent you PM with a little info to get you started...:D

Your camper was a deal...

There is a 1994 Hawk for sale on Craig's List out of Davis, CA for $4900. So a '99 Grandby for $4000 is great!

Golferguy, whats your handicap? I could sit down and converse with you about golf, but I don't and never have golfed. Both my dad and my brother are avid golfers so I've wound up learning a lot about the game over the years.
