Camp Chairs!

Yes, let's go down this road again. For 15 years Julie & I have been very pleased with these simple folding chairs from REI. They cost $50 a piece.

In 15 years we've gone through 3 pairs of these chairs. They were discontinued years ago. We saved the best of the older chairs when we replaced with new. A good source of replacement parts - like I used yesterday to repair the current pair. REI started carrying a newer similar chair but it is inches wider - too wide. Also, a couple of the features we liked, like the sliding pillow/backrest, are gone.

We like simple, low to the ground. Reclining could be a plus for night skies.

Suggestions?

We (mostly me) are also Kermit converts. They ain’t inexpensive, but they are well made, comfortable, and have great support. Years ago, when we shared a campsite at Fish Lake, you might remember me leaning over to pick up a Fritz toy, and breaking my Pico chair. I replaced it with a Kermit, and liked it so much I bought a second They roll up to fit in a sleeve, but you can travel with them assembled.

Edit: They do not recline.

yes, and their product support is excellent. My first one had some minor defects and they sent me new parts and instructions at no cost to me (even though the parts had to cross the border). I initially thought I would use the leg extensions and feet and cup holder, but am quite content to sit lower than most other folks. Makes roasting stuff on the fire more enjoyable and my drink can simply sit on the ground, within easy reach.

we like folding chairs, with mesh btm, and back. got first one years back at camping world. when one finally needed replacing, i bought 2... but not from camping world. the back is a bit tall, and is great for leaning back and stargazing. i like that it is 'normal' height from ground, so no stooping down to get in. easy in and out. we use totes for footrests. these have been on many many river trips, and take a lot of abuse. pluse the mesh is poly, and it dries out quicker than cloth.

We like Helinox chairs. They pack into a very small, lightweight zippered bag. Easily fits into a backpack. About sixty seconds to setup or tear down. Not bulky at all. See Helinox Official | Ultra Lightweight Outdoor Gear They're pricey but when we went with an off-brand version it just didn't work out. Returned it and got another Helinox.

There kermit chairs look nice and durable. Does the top cross bar put pressure on your back or does the back fabric panel support you enough to keep the top crossbar from digging into your back?

I’ll toss in my 2¢… if you really push back, you can feel the arched cross bar, but in general the fabric is more than enough support.

We have had good luck and several years with our Kelty chairs. They fold up small and fit in a nice carrying pouch with a shoulder strap. Because a lot of our travels take us to bluegrass shows and events, these chairs are nice and low (but not too low) making them the appropriate height for outdoor venues. They do offer a version that sits a bit higher if getting up from down low is an issue.

Snow Peak Luxury Low Beach Chair for around the camper. Spendy but deploys/stows quickly and is comfortable. I expect it will be durable.

Nemo Moonlight for excursions away from the camper. It is light and packs small but is not super comfortable for sitting stretched out for any length of time. It tends to cut circulation to my legs.

Those Kermit’s sure look nice.

Another vote for the snow peak beach chairs. We have had several chair comparo's on various river trips with dozens of chairs, and these always seem to come out on top for comfort. They are super fast to set up, but the tradeoff is they are bulky when stored, and to big/heavy for anything except car camping.

Those are all really nice chairs and I have and like the Front Runner Chairs. Let me introduce you to a much lower cost option that we have used extensively for years. They are comfortable, fold down reasonably well and, as an added bonus, have side pockets and an attached table. All for $29 but usually available for less with coupons (I actually bought 2 for $20 once).
