hello. i have an intact canopy headliner that is flaking off micro fibers. i believe it is old and dried out but looks in great shape. wondering if anyone has had the issue and any fixes besides replacement. my thought was to glue wool blankets on top of existing headliner to add insulation and prevent inhaling of small plastic fibers that fall when agitated.

also, i am thinking about installing one of these stoves and wonder if anyone has any advice on installing in truck. the stove could be removed for use with my hot tent. thank you.

I assume the headliner you’re referring to is the fuzzy stuff that is often called mouse fur. If it is, I recommend removing it if possible, then replacing with a more friendly material of your choice, or simply painting over the surface with a rubberized paint. There may be a product that has a small amount of insulation value.

I have encountered 1 or 2 campers with small wood stoves under the canopy. The only comment I remember was from a biologist doing plant surveys at about 9000’ on Steens Mountain, and staying there at night. She appreciated the warmth.

thank you. i may just tear it out like you said. its sad these mouse furs dont last. it appears in great shape (until you brush your hand on it and fibers fall off). if i can find an eco paint i may just paint interior and leave bare. that might be more fire retardent friendly if i do put in stove.

Five or six years ago the CDory site (c-brats.com), there was a thread on painting the inside of the berth area with an insulating paint that helped with condensation. It’s a great site if you’re a fan of dories, but the search engine leaves much to be desired. Try looking for something like “painting the v berth”. If you don’t find anything, let me know. I’ll see if one of my friends there has a link.
