Wanting ideas on what people are using to cover their FWC or ATC campers when not in use. Even if mounted on truck wanting a cover to help with sun damage over time when not in use. Do not have room in garage or a structure to cover. Thanks for any input.

We also don't have a garage tall enough. I've been using a grey tarp with grommets just to keep the sun off of it. A rope through the grommets keeps it from flying away.

Our first tarp only lasted one year before the UV damaged it and it ripped in a bunch of places. So then we got a UV-resistant tarp. But it's only been six months so I can't comment on how long it will last. It got ripped in one spot due to strong winds last month. We use it year 'round whenever the truck and camper are not in use.

Our camper never comes off the truck. I use a class B RV cover. It is nice that the back has a zippered flap to access the rear door. Does the job, but boy is it a bear to get on the rig! Two people make it manageable though.

I’m looking at getting a metal carport like yours, and you also use the rv cover (which is out of the question for me). Is the metal carport not the best idea?

There are several things to ideally protect from when doing long term storage outdoors. Snow load, rain, trapped water and mold under the cover, acidic rain, high humidity, UV damage, ozone damage, rodents, insects, wind storm debris strikes, and probably a couple more I missed. Any given method may only protect you from a few of these.

A metal carport is a great start at a protection setup, but probably you still want a cover for UV protection. Then you need to prevent rodent entry.
