Drain in propane box?

Hello - new member here, just picked up my 2010 Hawk in May (thanks to the Gear Exchange). We had some wet and windy weather a few weeks back, and water must have blown in the louvered door to the propane box. It seems water pooled under there, got under the silicone, and damaged the wood beneath the rear of the camper.







Rather than replacing the wood, I was thinking of just tightening it up with a couple screws, and then sealing up part that delaminated. I'm also interested in installing a drain in the propane box (e.g., http://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/topic/6973-leak-behind-siding/page-3).

Any tips or advice?

FYI, enjoyed 30 nights in the camper this summer, half of those with family (including toddler). Total gamechanger!

My 2014 Hawk propane compartment has a screened drain to allow any propane to escape to the outside as it is heavier than air. Water, also, should drain. Wonder if that is recent change?

We had historic rainfall in the Carolinas this past weekend.

I need to pull my bottles out and have a "look see" for evidence of water intrusion.

My 2015 Hawk has drain holes in the propane compartment also.

Yep, my 2015 Hawk has drain holes in both the propane compartment and the compartment to gain access to the rear of the frig.

I had a bit of dampness due to last weekends rainfall, but, no pooling water.

We have an 05 Hawk and ran out of time to do a drain-hole mod to the propane compartment before our trip. The silicone had separated from the wood so we pulled it all out and recaulked with 3M 4000. Our cheap fix has been to leave a large car wash sponge under the tank by the door. This soaks up the little bit of water that gets in during rain storms and keeps it from pooling on the wood until we can check the compartment.

You linked to a thread I started a few years ago. I installed the propane box drain and recaulked the siding. My bottom board was delaminated too much to just screw back together. I was never exactly sure whether the water came from somewhere in the siding in that corner or the propane box but I have not noticed any additional problems.
