Curious about something — if you could get a free brand-new RV today, what model/make would you choose? Would love to hear your answers and the logic behind your decision.

I’d rule out 99% of the entire RV world because of what I consider sub par quality and/or poor customer focus. Depending on what kind of RVing I was doing, I am left with a list of 3 manufacturers that I would consider. They are:

Oliver - travel trailers
Northern Lite - hard side truck campers
All Terrain Campers (ATC) - pop up truck campers

There are probably a few other truck camper builders that could be on the list, but no other travel trailers. I also avoid large RV dealers like Camping World, et all..

Tools to task. When we bought our pickup and later the same year our camper, we carefully considered what we wanted to do. Going into high elevations, on seldom used, sometimes narrow, dirt roads, far off grid for a week or more at a time. Those considerations, at that time, 2019, almost forced the choice we made. Most reliable truck: Toyota Tundra TRD with the 25 gallon gas tank. Most appropriate camper would have been either the Hawk from four wheel campers or a similar camper from ATC. We had a chance to see a Hawk and talk to the install technician. His hands on experience helped move us to the Hawk.

For us it was the best choice. We still feel the same.

If forced to replace today, I would look for a 2020 Toyota Tundra TRD with low miles and the large fuel tank. Would probably go to ATC this time -- I am not fond of some recent changes to the HAWK at Four Wheel.

My view is more narrowed.Since I am not interested in an RV.
The ATC Bobcat choice we made fitted our needs in 2009 and still does to this day.
Admitted I made some quick choices but I did visit both FWC and ATC facilities.
At the time FWC was still privately owned.
I was impressed with them but after visiting ATC was more impressed.
Their quality/workmanship/price point/value and costumer service meant more to us.
Call me bias OK.But that's my story.

It would be nice to have a clearer picture of one's necessities, absolute gotta have's, hobbies, places they wish to go, how many folks in the traveling tribe (including beasts), length of journeys, on grid vs off grid, and so on. Everyone has their own needs and their own definition of the ultimate rig.

For me, it's a Hawk towing a boat :)

If it’s free I’d want a trailer from Outdoors outta Oregon, cause they’re built better and expensive.

I’m building my “FWC/ATC” style camper so I don’t need a free one of those. :p

F-350 + 4WC Hawk towing an AS Trade Wind 25 ft FBT or maybe a boat.
I am almost halfway there. But it's definitely not free.
IDK about the logic. Basecamp + spike camp?

We still love the nimbleness of our 09 Tacoma/FWC Eagle, it's my favorite for true backcountry exploring. She likes the Mercedes Sprinter naturally because of the toilet and shower but it just won't go places like the Tacoma.

I recently bought leaf springs from JDM Off Road in our home town, and stopped in to pick them up. Wow, they have some interesting vehicles, many imported from Japan. A lot of right-hand drive and nearly all unusual rigs. They had one in work that was a bus they were converting to 4WD. The owners decided their Sprinter van was too small. It's entertaining looking at what's for sale there.

Since we’re just shootin’ the shat …
