Our last trip took us to the East Side of the Sierra Nevada where we spent two weeks. Our activities were as varied as the wonderful landscapes. Did we have our full quota of fun? You can find out at these links to our blog.

Yes enjoying.Bummer about leaving your vital equipment home.
Why did you remove them from the camper?
Your obsidian find is very extensive. Lots of tools were made.
Those cabins are in well kept condition.

Wonderful TR, thanks for sharing! I’m surprised the cabins are left open, and even more surprised they haven’t been vandalized.

The cabins are a long way from the usual crowds and urban population centers. Frank, the new truck and camper are higher and just fit in our 8' garage door. It will not fit with the Yakima Shovel Rack in place, so it's removed each trip. It is a hassle but no way around it.

Thanks for the nice comments! :)

Fantastic and fun trip. Thanks for the report. Very interesting obsidian finds. I know how you feel having left your shovel behind. I would feel naked without my estwing geologists pick.

That is an amazing amount of obsidian. Only place like it I have seen is a bit similar is the Obsidian cliff in Yellowstone.

Terrific! The Sierras never disappoint. I’ve been to some of the areas you write about but never so off road. My focus is on trout. I’ll keep a better eye out for obsidian. Looks cool. A friend searches for and finds arrowheads like crazy. Me? Nada.

Is this more obsidian than at Lake Paulina in Lassen? We saw that after a fresh dusting of snow, so pretty with the black and white contrasts, and if you touched it at all, a splash of red.

Have you thought about mounting it vertical on the right rear like I have mine?
Easier to get to when needed.

I think going to the summit of, appropriately named, Glass Mountain wins the prize for the most obsidian for us.

Thx for the TR Monte ! i am doing some interior house painting.... not remotely similar...

Fascinating TR! It's fun finding that much obsidian. We found big chunks in central Oregon but nothing like the roadbed you wisely didn't drive.

Little glass mountain (which is larger than glass mountain) you don't have much choice but to drive on obsidian. Its a bit unnerving but it seems the sharp points have been ground down over the years.

Thanks to both of you for these wonderful stories.
The Narrow gauge line video was really great.
I have until now only seen stills of that rail line
I think the SP called that loco a "Sage Hen". If I remember right.
