Eastern California & Nevada - June 2025

In forestry "throwing the chain" refers to the old survey methods.
"Pulling chain" is crummy work in a saw mill and I want nothing to do with it.

The eastern Sierra is my home country. It has helped me forget about the Cascades and the Rockies.

I was on a trail ride with the Skyline Trail Riders on the White Horse Ranch at the foot of Steens Mountain in 2007 when I rode out with a friend on my trail mules. We encountered a mountain lion early one morning, and my mule over reacted bucking me off and breaking my femur in the saddle. It took all day to get to a hospital in Bend. No helicopters were available. Bad day. I have not been back since

We were gone for more than a month fly fishing. It will be an exciting tale to share but first I've got a lot of catching up to do. I've completed Part Four. It is posted to our blog and can be found here -

Eastern California & Nevada - June 2025 - Part Four

Thanks again for your kind patience. :)

Thanks Monte. In our several travels along US 50 we stopped at a express station
when ever we could find them. Quite an event in the 1860s and now when the rid is recreated.
So much to see out in our world. Thanks for your stories.
