Does anyone have there 4 wheel camper mounted on a flatbed truck. I am considering converting my Silverado, standard bed, truck to a flat bed. I want more storage space and I thought I could use the extra space on the sides of the camper for storage boxes.

I haven't seen any of the active members that have this setup but there are some out there on the net. Someone was just asking about flat beds & utility beds and some pics & info was tossed up in that thread (its on page 2 of this forum).

Flat beds are the truck of choice in Australia. Lots of different vehicles than we get, Rangers with turbo diesels! Here are a few pics from a trip across the continent I did on a motorcycle last month.

I have a flatbed on my Cummins and I love the extra space on the sides for storage when my camper is mounted. I am going to build panels that slide into the stake rails that convert the open side space into a storage box. I'll post some pics next week of my rig.

Yes, we can build a camper for a flatbed.

If you send me an e-mail directly to ... stan@fourwh.com

I would be glad to send you pictures with different flatbed campers we have built in the past.

Thanks & have a great weekend !

Stan

I have a 14 foot long, 1 ton, 4x4,flat bed that I mount an ambulance box converted into an off grid, solar powered, fully self sufficient camper... love it!! Given the need is 8 foot wide and 14 feet long..I have extra deck space for extra gear along with my 12 foot long camperbox.

Just curious, but what is the difference in the center of gravity with a FWC on a flatbed? It's got to be a lot higher. I was in a situation last year where I was afraid I was going to roll my camper after my front wheel got sucked into some loose gravel and I couldn't turn it back. Not sure I would have liked 6" or 8" higher C/G.
