Furnace heater

Yes, the factory installed furnace is absolutely necessary for anyone who camps or lives at high elevation. Based on the advice of a few friends who had owned trailers and campers we didn't order the furnace option and tried to heat the camper with a 1,500 btu/hr catalytic unit. Last fall at Rock Creek (elev. 8,500') and at Lake Tahoe (elev. 6,200') we found out the hard way that the small portable heater didn't cut it. I ended up installing the factory furnace kit ($515.00 plus my labor) this winter and we've used it 3 times now and love the warm camper, especially in morning. One additional benefit is now we can use much tinner sleeping bags.

it really helps to get the moisture out of the camper too. I did not not have to "recalibrate" the thermostat on the Hawk that Stan sold me. Just turning the unit on, and leaving the setting at its lowest did the trick while we were up at Lassen. Man oh man! not struggling to get a fire going is a real blessing.
