FWC Head Calls

Great forum with great advice!! I hate to be the one who asks this question but am looking for some experienced based advice. I am very close to ordering a FWC but am torn between the Grandby and the "new" Keystone models. I would like to solicit some advice/insight about "head calls" in the FWC. I have two young children that I want to introduce to the great outdoors and not KOA. Only drawback is I do not really want to escort the kids (Wife) outside the camper in the middle of the night when nature calls. Based on that, the toilet cassette in the keystone is an attractive feature...but a tough pill to swallow for an additional $2000 since I do not want an inside shower. I also read you can purchase a porta potti for the grandby, but am concerned that once the couch/bed is folded down, there may not be enough room to use it. My other thought is to inquire about a having FWC build a Keystone sized FWC camper without the inside toilet cassette and shower. Will they do that if the cassette toilet/shower is a standard feature in the Keystone? Ideally I would like all of the options of the Grandby in the keystone...but not pay the Keystone base price. Based on any of your experience, would FWC be willing to accommodate that request?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure that you are right and once the lower bed is out there would be no room for the porta-potty. Other than that - I'm not sure what to say. I haven't seen a Keystone model myself. After doing some travelling, I think I have decided that I wouldn't mind the inside shower though.

Those are nice but they are several thousand more than the FWCs. And you thought FWC was expensive....

They seem to be built better. I guess it all come's down to "you get what you pay for"

I was out camping for three months this past summer and I chose to purchase a separate free standing enclosure which is easily set up and taken down by one person. I used it to hold my personal shower and the head canister. I set it up just outside the camper door where the outside light is located and easily accessed during night time uses.

The enclosure I purchased was under $35 from Walmart.

Wow only 35? Do you have a photo of that? I looked for some time for something like that - I guess I didn't think of looking at Wal Mart.

Where were you camping for three months? Sounds great!

I haven't taken pictures of it, but will plan to when I'm out and about again over the holidays. Walmart has a fair amount of camping and RVing equip/accessories which are well made and inexpensive. Check them out. Buy out of season items and you'll pay less.

I re-visited my favorite Pacific Northwest sites that I once experienced on a bicycle and enjoyed the comfort of my Tundra and FWC!

Shower Tent

There are several models also listed on ebay under the search: shower tent!
A couple of nice ones in the $35-$65 range. A nice thing to have if you are traveling in mixed company for the port-o-potty use also. Ever had any problems with strong wind trying to take away your tent?

You might want to contact the guys from All Terrain Campers. They're on this forum and are very helpful. They might be able to build you a solution. They're camper is very much like the FWC and less costly as well.

I was leaning in that direction pricing out my camper...I am looking at Cabela's for an outdoor head....The new FW Keystone is self contained...but costs an additional 2k. I Can't see paying that for a toilet for the little ones....I am more than willing to escort them outside to the head canister to save the $$$$....plus...it's part of the rugged adventure of camping!

I agree, In the scheme of things we find it easier to use natures vastness. UV reduces the waste to nothing in a few weeks and after all it is natural. We are just sure to burn the paper or take it with us. Its tests you a bit when the weather is bad but there is always a porta-potty.
