Hi Guys,
I just got the fabric in to re-upholster my old fleet and bought a 4" memory foam matress topper to replace the old bed. Before I tear into the project though I want to deal with the couch back situation in the fleet. The original version is less than ideal with the couch back free floating in the camper and the support feet for it while it is in bed mode also support it in couch mode by bracing off the window frame which after 20 years has started to do damage to the window. Also the height necessary to support it in bed mode makes it a less than comfortable angle in couch mode.
This is what it looks like now:
You can see the large back feet that I am talking about. I called FWC and I can buy a set of the brackets that come in the new ones for $150. FWC said I would have to cut the storage down under the bench to accommodate the brackets. I wasn't 100% sure why or what they were talking about. I know the bench storage is less in all of the new campers to accommodate the porta potti storage, but is that space at the end of the couch also open to accommodate the couch bracket?
You can also see in the picture that my bed isn't a slide out it's a flip up/down which makes it a back rest for the front settee in the down position. So my couch backrest only goes behind the side cushions, it doesn't go all the way to the front the way it would in a new camper. That means that I would have to mount the front couch bracket in between the front settee cushion and the couch cushion closest to the cab. Without being able to get a close up view of the brackets it will be hard for me to see if it will work. I'm hoping to save myself the hour and a half drive to woodland. So if anyone can post detailed pictures of the brackets and how they mount to the bench box that would help alot and of course any ideas about the mod on the old fleet to accommodate them would be great too. Maybe Stan can chime in on this, have you had anyone put these brackets on an older model?
Thanks for the help everyone.
