Hi everyone,

We just put in our order for a FWC Granby, expecting delivery somewhere around the end of December or early January. We have a big hard side camper that will be sold, and use the FWC for some of my photography jaunts, plus when pulling the boat and Airstream. We'll use the Airstream as a base camp, taking several day side trips with the truck and pop top.

One thing that I need some suggestions on is additional storage. We're having the 10' Yakima racks installed, but I do want to minimize weight on the top of the Granby. I have a basket case and a rocket box to go up there, but would like to get something secure at hitch level for things like a generator (occasionally), fuel for the truck and generator, and extra water. I am also interested in inverter options. If anyone has a suggestion, please feel free to give me a shout.

Regards,

Steve

Steve,

Welcome to the family, and congratulations on the new Granby purchase. I'm sure you'll find this forum helpful and you'll get some good advice from some nice people. If you spend some time on here using the search feature, you'll find some great information about hauling extra gas, along with storage options for the genny and such. Many of us use a hitch mounted (front or rear) basket for hauling extra heavy items, but others may have additional ideas as well. The more you put up top, the harder it is to lift the roof obviously...

See you on the forums,

Kilroy

...I forgot to tell you that if you want a secure option for a rear cargo basket, this is a good option to consider. It's a roadmaster quiet-hitch purchased for about $28 from e-trailer.

Also, where are you from and what is your tow rig?

Kilroy,

We are near Portland now, but originally from the south part of the state. Our truck is a 2000 F250, 7.3L that I bought new in '99.

I've got a front hitch as well, so we can hang gear at either end, canoes and kayaks on top.

Regards,

Steve

Welcome Steve. Maybe I will run into you in May when I'm picking my daughter up from Reed College.
Tim, Reed is just up the road from me. BTW, it's across the street from the Rhododendron Garden, for a bit of photography. I saw on your profile that you're a landscape photographer. I am more on the wildlife side, but starting to transition into landscape. Maybe we will have to swap some locations.
