Gas struts for 80's Fleet?

Hello All,

I'm looking into installing lift- assist struts on my 80's Fleet. I've read/skimmed the epic thread on the subject, but I can't find a write-up of someone adding these to an older camper like mine with the shorter canvas section. My questions:

1) Should I use shorter struts than the 30-inch most folks are using? If so, what length?
2) If I use the 30 inch ones, is it okay if they just don't reach full-ish extension?
3) What else do I need to know? Quirks/issues?

It has a video of a install that might help. For your camper you'll need to make some measurements for your distance needed on the structs. I ordered the hardware kit from FWC.
