My camper is covered in Ice, Sleet and Graupel. This is the second day after our winter storm exited. Spent most of yesterday clearing the driveway which consisted of 2 inches of fluffy snow on top of 3-4 inches of sleet with a 1/4" of ice underneath. I usually clear off snow from my camper quickly but the sleet and ice make that difficult and likely I would damage the roof. So waiting for the sun to do its magic. This morning I climbed on top and got a few pics of Graupel. I have only seen it one other time if memory serves, but never such large pellets.

Up here on Palomar Mountain it's often referred to as "popcorn snow". It's nice to know there's a cooler name for it.
Currently we've got fierce Santa Ana winds going. Power is out for safety, generator is on when needed, and fireplace is heating the house. I'd love some Graupel right now.

As a kid I called it sneet as a cross between snow and sleet. The Internet was exceptionally slow in the early sixty's. At least, that's my story and I'm stuck with it.
