Today is the second day of meteorological spring and after a snowless winter, we just came in from clearing 4" of wet heavy snow with Lil' Red and the big front mount snowblower.

I got an alert on my cell phone yesterday for a severe winter weather alert. I guess a half inch of slush on the lawn will cause destruction, mayhem and death. Or that because it hasn't snowed since November that NOAA has forgotten that it's supposed to snow here in winter.

Spring started out in the 50's for a high in north central Idaho, our February snow is melting fast, but at least we had some. We started planting early season garden seeds on the 1st, and an expansion of our wildflower meadow yesterday before rains today.

Snow pack across the west looks better in some places than others.

I'll spray de-icer on Julie's shovels when I do the blower today.

Yesterday, we had a male Bullock’s oriole flash through the yard. Spring might actually be happening. The redwings are on the valley floor, but haven’t made it up the 400’ to the fort.

The overnight forecaster upped the totals for our spot forecast. Julie has her treated shovels strategically placed and is glued to the windows waiting for snow. This is the first real snow storm of the season and she's excited.
