First let me say I’m new to the board and have 10 posts now and should stop and say Hi.

Hi everyone, and yes I’m a Pop-Up People. I have been since 1994 with an 1882 FWC Fleet model. 2001 bought a new Ranger FWC from Ben Burnett through Nevada Four Wheel in Reno Nevada, since closed when Ben sold the business.

The Ranger sits on a 1983 Toyota 4x4 long bed pickup. This truck has been built up for off-road adventures and goes everywhere it is pointed. It has been on the Rubicon trail without the camper. It is mostly limited by the passenger when she says “I don’t think so " , or “It’s time for me to get out and walk”.

I have done some modifications to my camper and a couple of others and slowly I’m going to share them with you. This is a great site and a thank you for having a place for fellow POP-UP People to share.

Hello Patrick and welcome.

I recognize your truck from the FWC owners pics pages. No confusing that red Toyota pick up with any other. You have the 22R or 20R under the hood? I'm a longtime Toyota geek, particularly the '85 - '89 4Runners, FJ55 & FJ60 Landcruisers and 1st gen pick ups.

I look forward to seeing you around here and reading about your camper improvements.

~ cheers!

not stock anymore

Hi kcowyo,

The 22R has long since left to be replaced with a Chevy small block 400. The 22R could not handle it with the hills and head winds. 5th gear was only useable down hill or with a tail wind.

Hi Patrick,
Nice setup and welcome to the forum!

I saw your avatar on another post and was just going to ask what kind of truck you have when I came across this one.

Look forward to your desciptions of Mods and Trip reports :D

Welcome

Pat, welcome to the board. Sounds like you get a little use out of your Toyo. With that chevy motor you should have plenty of power. Do you have any pictures of your rig on this forum? Kcowyo mentioned a FWC owners pic's pages? Don't think I have seen that here. But would like to see a photo or two if possible...:D

Hello

Hi Patrick,

Nice to see an old customer join the forum. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures and seeing some more pics.

Thanks

captainkettel,

No pictures yet here but the reference was to the FWC web site customers on the Ranger page. I told Stan the links were not working when you click on them a diffrent truck comes up.

Pleanty of power...I can just imagine peoples face as they are passed going up a grade by a Toyota truck with a camper on it:D

Ben,

Thanks, You gave me a nice tour on a Saturday way back when. Marty did some work on the Ranger at Dave & Trina's shop in Reno before he left FWC. I was really impressed with Marty.

Ben what ever happened to Mike Duncan? Really miss his talks, though he might have cost you much in phone bills.

Thanks for the pictures! Come to think about it I have seen a photo of your "Red" Toyota w/FWC somewhere before. If not then somebody else's red truck. They all look the same...LOL...

Duncan

Mike is now with Chalet. He did run up our phone bill but more than made up for it with sales.

He has just designed a new hard side pop up camper for Chalet. I believe he is on the road doing some shows with it now and they plan on putting it in their dealerships later this year.

We still hear from him from time to time. Wish I could get him back in the future.

Ben thanks for the update on Mike.

I do remember the story he told me that you can drive 60mph with the camper poped up. So you hoped in your truck and camper with it up and drove down the interstate with Mike in the back going 60 mph.

Though it may not be something that is done, it could if you had to. I have always driven short distances poped up just so I don't have to pop down then back up.

mph

Actually Mike was being conservative. I have driven the campers at 80 mph with the top up. Not something I would recommend though.

When you are moving a short distance, just watch out for low tree limbs.:)
