Hello to everyone in the community. I’ve lurked and appreciated discussions here in the past (and always longingly watched the classifieds) but haven’t joined till now. Hoping I could get some input on what sort of value I should be arguing for my older six pac camper that was just damaged in an accident.
While at a stop sign a gentleman in a Raptor slid out around a corner and hit the rear driver torque lift tie down. The impact bent the tie down and in turn twisted the camper resulting in
All camper tie down eye bolts bent.
Popped the lower aluminum siding out full length on the drivers side.
Caused propane door to separate from siding.
Sheared the propane tank mounting bolt allowing it the bounce around seems to be leaking from the valve slightly.
Because of the camper shifting the primary propane outlet pipe is crushed between the camper body and the truck bed. May be cracked or damaged, not positive.
The Raptor was rented from a ride share app and it sounds like they can be pretty tough to work with insurance wise. I was hoping to get some community consensus on what the “value” of a six pac is.
1995 six pac t150
New freshly upholstered cushions
Diesel heater
New 20 gallon fresh water tank
Upgraded AMG battery
Solar
USB and power ports added
Electric system buffed up switched and master fused
Newer 3 way dometic fridge
New mattress and mattress pad
Freshly resealed roof and all exterior seems
Interior condition great, exterior condition fair
To me the value is high it’s a tough combination of low profile, narrow, and still quite livable and I feel like it would be hard to replace. I don’t want to get told it’s totaled because it’s only worth $500 because it’s an older camper but what is a realistic number?
Thanks so much for any help or insights
Sam

I think they are going to say it is totalled, unfortunately. I'd be removing as many of your upgrades as you can before they take it. An insurance company isn't going to be taking into account a new battery, fridge and the like that is worth more than the costs to repair the camper structure.

Try and find for sale ads for similar campers and send to insured.

Thanks for the ideas, I found a handful of fairly comparable campers that have been for sale over the last few years. Hard to know if any of them sold for asking price but they seemed to range from pretty beat ones for about $4000 to pretty nice ones as much as $9500 with the majority of the updated campers in the $6500-$7500 range

Good luck, and expect them to start low, negotiations are required when dealing with insurance payouts! It takes a lot of work but worth it. I remember being told they could not find any comps and I replied that is why it is worth more than you are offering!

Unfortunately though the truck has great coverage the camper isn’t on the policy. Oversight on my part for sure. I think I’m just used to my Alu cab on the our little truck which is insured with that truck as an accessory. At least we have a second little camper and got out this weekend and had some lovely camping but my sweetheart is sad to se her “big” camper out of commission

My vehicle insurance (Nationwide) covers my Four Wheel Camper without having to have a separate policy because I leave it on the truck full time. Because it is on full time that may be why it is covered as part of the truck policy. I did not have to pay extra for it either.
Sounds like you may have talked to your insurance company already but if not, you might ask them about it and under what circumstances would it be covered by your truck insurance policy.
