I have been looking for installation instructions for the FWC Fleet I will pick up in Alaska next week.
What do I need for the front install? I will have eye hooks installed in the bed next Friday morning at the Toyota dealer.
I can see from the pics on the site that at the back I should have hooks into the rear fender.
I want to try to take all I need for install to Skagway as it is a very small town of 250 approx so not sure what all the local hardware store will have.
Thanks
robbie

Well you could ask us, and probably get some good advice, or call fwc and get what, so far, everyone has said is the exact specs for the install. I'm sure Stan will chime in shortly but if he's busy give fwc a call first.

Magiver

I wasn't sure if I wanted mine so I Magivered mine on with rachet tie dows till I got the hardware.Lucky I was 3o minutes from home.

Don't want the hook up to take long. I got a two week hunting trip to go on.
Should be ok.

Have you had the toyota dealer install the eye bolts yet ?

If not, you might want to want and save yourself some $$ and cancel the appointment.

I doubt if any Toyota dealers have an understanding of how our campers are tied down to the truck bed.

If you want additional tie downs in the bed for items other than the camper, then maybe still consider having them installed.

The campers have varied over the years as to how they were secured to the truck beds, but most all of the older FWC's were bolted down to the truck bed.

4 Bolts installed through the camper floor, through the truck bed, and then a nut & washer underneath. I think they call them elevator bolts. They come with a clete type washer that you tap / hammer in the camper floor and it has a square opening on it. The bolt has a really wide / flat head on it and a square shaft under the bolt head that slips into the square opening on the washer you tapped into the camper floor. That way when you are under the truck, you can tighten the nuts, and not have the bolt up inside the camper move on you.

Your best case would be to bring a bunch of rope and 4 - 6 decent ratched straps. That way you can at least figure out some way to get the camper strapped down for the journey home, and then install it properly later.

Just call our service dept. and ask for Chicali if you have any other questions

800-242-1442

Chicali is familar with the older Fleet Models.

PS: Try not to crank down on any rope or ratchet straps if they are completely over the top of the camper roof. The aluminum roof frame and aluminum skin covering the roof might bend on you.

Hope this helps

Have fun with the new camper !

Thanks Stan. I am having the eye bolts installed regardless.
I have a 2 1/2 inch strap and a couple of 2 inch that I can use for the trip home.
Thanks again robbie
