What your opinion on it ? What to know if it worth $$ over the free one

Here's a link to the plans iOverlander is now offering: iOverlander | Subscriptions

I understand they had to abandon the old app (explained on their website and discussed on an episode of the Overland Journal podcast), but frankly the new price scheme is way too high, astronomical would be an understatement in my opinion. $99 a year to get the functionality you used to have for free (at least the functionality I care about). For $59 you can only download 3 states of POI's and 3 maps (the entire world of gps/POI's was free in the old app and you could download it in seconds). They have also removed the ability to download POI's from the website unless you have a subscription. I wish you could just pay to access the POI data, I don't care about the other app functionality, I use Gaia GPS for that, the iOverlander app can't replace that functionality, and I don't want to pay for both.

I've used iOverlander for years, and loved the way it used to work, but to me this is a major downgrade and disappointment.

Well said. The apps have been uninstalled from the Lady's cell phone. We managed without ioverlander for years. We won't miss it.

We’re using the free version. You can download, say, northern CA or all of Oregon but not both. Then delete the download and get another state when you cross over.

If you appreciated the free data on IOverlander for many years, why not pay for it? No one works for free & Im sure these apps have many hidden costs, including hosting the info on the web.

In the end, $100/year is probably not going to make a substantial difference to anyone’s lifestyle on this forum. Use, contribute, pay…

It's was all free data generated by the users. Thats the problem, they collected free data from users for years and are now paywalling it. Not to mention all the maps and POI's were open source data

Yes the data was contributed by users. The App was written by and maintained/upgraded by some people who would like to be compensated for their work.

There is a free version that does have restrictions, I have tried it out and would not have a problem getting by with it.

Are you an app developer or programmer? The app has not been updated in the last 10 years, which is why they are having problems now. I have no problem with them being compensated, but charging each user $100 is ridiculous. The free version does not let you download offline, so it's useless half of the time.
