Well we did it. After watching ads and getting an idea of the market and pricing one showed up close to home. Purchased a used 95 ranger II with three way fridge, furnace, sink, stove, hydraulic jack stands, and Catalina 2500 awning. I'd put it at good condition. We got it at a reasonable price that will allow us to make some changes and work on what we need for suspension on the truck. We are really excited on getting to work on making it "ours" and also to get it on a trip! We've appreciated all the help and info offered by all of you on this site.

I might be able to give you some good tips & tricks about the camper.

Can also show you how to better make the camper fit your truck.

(ex. notching base for the ford ranger gas filler on the back/drivers side, and also triming the wrap around wings back on the rear of the camper --- so they won't scratch the sides of your truck).

I just picked up an old one myself, my unit is a bit rougher than yours, looks like you got a really nice camper there. I'm up in the foothills and went to the woodland FWC factory for mounting, they are a great resource.

Buckshot62. We decided we don't have no need for the awning for several reasons. One is carrying the extra weight, we want to keep this as light as we can. We have all the original receipts for this camper when it was ordered from FWC. This awning was installed in 1998. For the install two of the roof hold down clasps were removed. We have removed the awning and will be replacing the missing clasps to better hold the roof down. We will also need to seal all the awning mounting holes.

So you have less than 6 clamps? I have an awning (don't use it much yet) that came on mine but they just relocated where the clamps go.

Pods8, you are right in the clasps being relocated. One was moved around the corner on the back and the other to near the front of the camper along the side. This resulted in quite a long run without a clasp with a bit of up bowing of the roof in this area. The hooks are still in place along the roof edge so I will replace the removed clasps. I will then have eight.

Nice unit. I have that awning on my rig. It is a little troublesome to put out but works great in a place like the everglades where the shade can be real handy. Don't be to quick to toss it out. I haven't had any problems with the moved latches. We were in the path of the tornadoes that killed some folk in OK. The top was down but was impressed with the stamina of the 4 wheel camper

Did FWC put 8 latches on their units at one point in time? I plan to add a latch on each side of my 2008 Hawk...making a total of 8. It appears to me that FWC mounts the side latches moreso to accomodate the space for the awning option (that most seem to take) than to facilitate holding down the top evenly. I know for sure that my top is ever-so-slightly bowed and vibrates slightly in the mid section of the camper and I feel the addition of a latch in that area should fix the situation all around/sure can't hurt.
