Juniper Trees - In Case You Want to Know

Overgrazing, fire suppression, climate change - they all conspire to invite the juniper into once pristine grasslands and sagebrush steppe communities. Now they spread fire, dry up springs and really mess up some of my photography locations....;)

From the article: “The most noticeable attribute is its scent. A fresh-sawn juniper has a beautiful, lovely, aromatic smell to it. That is the thing that stands out to people the most.”

Don't think I hate on juniper, because I do love a pinion-juniper forest, even pure juniper stands in the right place, but as for smell... well the always strike me as if someone just took a piss close-by.

Have you considered making an appointment with an ENT specialist? I find the scent of freshly milled juniper almost as nice as Port Orford cedar. In college, I pulled planer chain to make a few extra bucks. Almost as soon as a POC slab hit the planer, that scent wafted down the chain line, as did the board… marked to go into a special load for a lucky boat builder.
