It's an annual event around here to stay home this holiday weekend. Besides, the roads are so busy with tourist traffic, we can't get out on the roads past 0900. We wash, wax and detail both the truck and camper. Most years we pull the camper off the truck for a full inspection and repaint the floor pack. This year we did not as the new camper's been on less than a year. There are other important annual chores such as charging up the jump starter battery and inspecting the tools we carry with us. In addition, we celebrated the first anniversary of purchasing the new truck.

Julie reports we now have 170 nights in the new camper and the new truck now has 40,500 miles on the odometer.

Very impressive travel numbers! Well I got ya beat! I just did my oil/filter change today and as crazy as it sounds I only put on 1,330 miles in a year! (I have relied on my new to me mini truck from Japan and the summer required motorcycle riding). We are hoping to get away in the Eagle the last couple weeks in September doing the Gaspe peninsula in Quebec and New Brunswick. That still is less than a couple grand more miles. Your miles out wandering gave us some good photos and stories. May you have the same this coming year!

Ahhhh... the jump battery. Thanks for the reminder. Don't need it often, but when we do, we do!

Off to charge the jump battery...but I did just review and restock our 5 first aid kits (vehicles, boats and backpack), so at least we are up to date there.
Good helpful suggestion! We stocked up on bandages on the road on our last trip. I've not yet decided how many wound stories I'll include in that story.

Pulled the camper off a couple of days ago. Surprisingly enough the bottom didn't need repainting and only found a tiny spot of rot. The underside of the overhang (is there better terminology for that)? had the white plastic (is it plastic) film flaking off. I was pleasantly surprised to find zero water damage as I scraped and sanded. That got a fresh coat of paint. Other than some cosmetic stuff the old camper is still in pretty good shape. I have a coast and a desert trip coming up soon. Hope the storms didn't tear up the Panamint Valley.

Was in Panamint in the spring. Pleasant Valley road out of Ballerat was a mess. Was hoping to get to South Park Canyon, but couldn’t even get to the first mine heading up the hill. Also tried to get up Goler Wash to get to Butte Valley, but couldn’t get passed the first dry waterfall. A local told me the rocky section on the west side of Mengel Pass was even worse. Have never had any problems on either of those roads in the last 30+ years. Hoping to head that way next month, anyone know what conditions are now?

Ya, I know. Was planning on doing that before I headed out next month. Was reminded of it when Craig mentioned Panamint in his post, but I realize it’s off topic. Will bring it up later in the correct section,
Thanks
Tom
