ladder on hawk camper

Has anyone been able to place a ladder on their 4wh camper. I know the company will place the steps on the back of your camper if you request it, or Thay will sale the steps to you to but on the back of your camper. But being 77years old I would feel more comfortable having an actual ladder to climb on to my roof. If anyone has one with good results or know where one may be obtained. I would greatly appreciate your sharing.

Adrian, I believe some members use the extending ladders that lean against the camper, but I don’t recall anyone having an attached external ladder.

I’m only 2 years behind you, and the camper roof is not on my list of places to visit.

Are you planning to store anything on the roof? If so, you should know that the FWC roofs aren't designed to hold a lot of additional weight, and any weight you add to the roof makes it more difficult to lift. The roof also isn't designed for you to walk on it. If you aren't planning to store anything on the roof, then there aren't typically a lot of reasons to get up there. I do have one of the telescoping ladders that Wandering Sagebrush mentions, but I have used it more around the house than I have while out camping. One situation I can see where a ladder would be useful (particularly this winter) is if you camp in snow country and need to brush the snow off the roof. In that case, one of the telescoping ladders would be much more helpful than a fixed ladder since you can move it around the camper.

I’m a dozen years behind OP and I’m planning ahead expecting to not visit the roof as much going forward. I have the factory fabricated roof rack and the rear of it gives a good handhold when using the rear wall steps. With my previous Hawk I used to haul all sorts of lumber up there for construction projects. That was 10 years ago and no plans to repeat that with my current Hawk (and age).

I do recommend a 14’ telescoping aluminum ladder for general at home maintenance on the camper.

I have seen small RV ladders bolted to the back of FWCs.

To be clear, the roof of a FWC is not built to handle the weight of a person. I assume the question is for ease of access to things stored on top?

I like to think everyone for answering my question. Sorry for the delay, I have been out of town the last couple of days. I just thought if there was an attached ladder, it would be easier to get to the roof, when needed, rather than caring another item with me(clean solar panels, etc.). Thought I would ask before purchasing another type of ladder.
