We just returned from our 5 week adventure in Washington, Oregon and Nevada. Some highlights are:

Devils Canyon scenic drive south of Kahlotus, WA

*Haystack Rock Road south of Vale, OR.

Camping at Lake Owyhee Road BLM across from landslide

Succor Creek Road views/driveO/N Succor Creek ⛺

Leslie Gulch/O/N stay at Slocum Creek ⛺️ bucket list✅

Pillars of Rome bucket list✅

Agates and jaspers in NW Nevada

Doherty Slide 5 minutes winding road along 1000’ drop with no guardrails

Dispersed camp at Beatys Buttes

Loudest thunder we have ever heard at Anson Memorial Park campground

Picture Canyon (entrance to Sheep Rock unit)

John Day Fossil Beds National Monument Sheep Rock unit hikes

Upper Grand Coulee view from North Million Dollar boat launch

Strong wild winds at above from 10pm to early morning

* This was one of our most harrowing bad judgements: removed cottonwood limbs with bow saw, moved large rocks to be stopped by an old rock slide, single track along Owyhee River, rattlesnakes love this rocky habitat but we didn’t see any, gorgeous scenery, one of those fishing the river helped us move large tree limbs we cut, spent the night exhausted then figured out a place to turn the truck around by clearing brush and boulders in the morning, lost a Torklift Fast Gun that attaches camper to truck bed but found it. This was another road that began as a graded gravel road then deteriorated to a single track then a shelf road. It hadn’t been driven for years judging by the vegetation that gave out truck pinstripes and the grasses in the middle.

We had a flat tire near LaGrande, OR and engine light but fixed both

Still selecting photos.

That's a fun yet unnerving road. I take that road when I go visit friends in Alturas (US395 south of Lakeview) from my home near Winnemucca. Often my wife and I will pull down to the hang glider launch at the sharp curve that begins the drop into the valley for a break, a bite and a view when driving over. When bad weather happens, we go to Alturas via Reno, an hour and 60 miles longer.

We only drive west to Lakeview as we are going downhill but on inside; only scrapes on the rocks, not falling 1000’. There are a few places to disperse camp along Beaty Buttes when you get to the bottom. We stop at the landing, too.

I'd love to hear share more about the Devils Canyon Scenic Drive - it's always fun to discover new things close to home! The Owyhee, Leslie Gulch, etc. are also high on my bucket list, but a bit further afield.

You definitely need to travel in the Owyhees. Succor
