Meteorological Fall Starts Today

Julie has been incessantly vacuuming and rearranging furniture. I believe she is getting the cave ready for winter. This happens every fall.

Was 97 F when we were in Bishop CA a few days ago. Too hot for us to camp at local BLM site so we changed plans and went to the NFS campsite on White Mountain. 35 miles later and it was a nice 75 F at 9500 ft.

Where did you camp on White Mtn? And how's the road?

We woke yesterday morning to temps, finally, down into the thirties. It didn't last long as we're back under a red flag warning with critically low humidity and wind.

Fires in NE Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Utah's is the biggest fire of the year. Strange, but not unexpected times.

Just home from 8 days in the high country of Idaho, with a few dips into Montana and Wyoming. The trip started with several large smoke plumes rising from the mountains, seemingly in every direction we looked, but mid way through we had a couple inches of snow, and ended the trip with blue, instead of smoky, skies. 28 F in the camper outside of Island Park was the coldest temp we measured, but I think it was a bit colder in the Lemhi Mountains, (low 20's?) we kept the heater on low, so it was 40's in the camper overnight. Feeling the change for sure.

It has begun…

About 24° here at the Fort.

Got down to 20 before sunrise here south of Winnemucca, currently 33. We got clouds and wind last night, but precipitation stayed north of about 35 miles north of town. All the mountaintop cameras show a good snow overnight and the road between Denio, NV and Lakeview, OR is covered in snow as per the ODOT camera at the stateline.
