We have visited there in Feb. the last 3 years in a row (when we go to the portland sportsman show).
It is well worth the drive !
It might be better in the sping because the water fall might have more water ?
But if they get some rain, maybe it will be going / flowing ?
If you get off the main highway, there is a small side road that follows the highway, excellent way to go in because you can see more smaller waterfalls that are not visable from the main highway.
The 3 places I liked the best ...
1. The Multnomah Falls
2. The fish hatchery up the road
(don't forget to visit Herman)
3. The look out visitor center that is up on top of the mountain.
I don't know what the camping situation is, but Im pretty sure I saw 1 or 2 campgrounds on the way in.
So if you are heading from Portland out to the falls, the 2 campgrounds I saw were on the left side of the freeway (just next to the river / and right off the highway).
Be prepared for WIND ! Holly Molly it can be windy there. I think the Gorge is the wind surfing capital of the world. One of the smaller waterfalls we saw was flowing up. Thats right up, not down. The wind was whipping up the side of the mountain so fast the water from the water fall wasn't hitting the ground.
