My wife, who has auto immune, is sensitive to chemicals. She is concerned our new ATC will need time to 'air out'. Has anyone experienced strong chemical smells with their new campers? Thanks for your help.

I am also sensitive to chemicals and my wife has leukemia. I had been wondering the same thing. At places like Home Depot and even the Supermarket, I have to stay away from the chemical/pesticide/cleaning aisles. With our new ATC, we started camping right away. We did not notice any effects at all. Not even from the mattress.

Two things others have reported with new campers are, a chemical taste from the water tank, and odors from the heater while it is being broken in.

Using the Formula 301 or whatever the protectant we use for the canvas twice a year has a strong smell. It doesn't take very long to air out though. Just pop the top and open up windows for a day or two or few. There isn't a whole lot of plastic stuff in the camper (a lot of wood and fabric instead), so there isn't much to give off chemicals.
