New Granby Home Build

Started to add accessories: Rechargable Mag-lite always there, always charged, and always Very bright (halogen bulb)and not a bad weapon either. Also mounted a Starlight 1000 motion sensing light on the rear floodlight switch. Had to turn down the sensitivity but now seems to be working very well. Has a starlight revolution LED 200 bulb that detects movement very well. Especially useful if your camping area is south of Tucson.

This one is for Hadley. Whale marine foot pump.. Had one on my sailboat for 20 years just feels right, slows down water use and takes no amps. Moved the water filter from outside wall to location closer to the heat less likely to freeze in this location I hope.

:) You just made my day!

Had one on my sailboat for 20 years just feels right, slows down water use and takes no amps.

That is why I am going to have one in my camper. (Currently it is sitting on my bedside table, my girl just rolls her eyes at me.)

I have not researched what water filter I am going to use. What is the unit you are using? I am just worried about it freezing up, so I would like a small unit that I can pump dry at night.

Hadley,

The water filter is a Everpure with the small part-timer cartridge in it.Little pricey but has a bypass plug.

Thanks! Researched for a while and ended up ordering the same unit. Where did you get the "part time" filter from? Amazon has the full sized filters, but I have not found a good source for the small ones.

.What I am worried about is how much stuff the wife can put in the back seat of an extended cab after I TAKE THE SEAT OUT!!!

Build some more cabinetry back there. :D

What about concerns on the whale pump freezing up, esp when it's a low point in the plumbing?

The Whale can be easily pumped dry, so I am hoping to be able to pump it dry so no big blocks of ice freeze in it. But yes, long term camping in very cold weather is hard on water lines. Will just have to see how it goes.

There is an incredibly simple solution to that problem - I've been doing it for decades & have never frozen a water line in any of my campers:

Don't camp in cold weather.

;)

(sorry)

I just spent all day outside in 0*F weather, wind chill was way down there. Right now that is sounding like a very good option.

Hadley,
I think I found the part-time filters at Camping World, they come in a two pack.I kinda feel the same about camping as I did sailing. You try not to be in places that the butter gets hard!!Will be loading the camper on the truck today, will be heading out on the "shake up" cruise-and deer hunt for a week.

Good-times

I will try to stop over this weekend so you can be the first to spill beer on the floor!! will you be home?

I'm home today, working on motorcycles.

Tomorrow I'll be out riding most of the day.

Went to the truck stop to weigh the truck and Grandby today.Looks like the camper came in at about 1370 lbs. with no water but with 130 lbs of batteries,2-75w solar panels and pots pans and plates.Total weight for 2003 3/4 ton Chevy Duramax ext cab LB and Grandby came in at 8320 lbs.So it looks like it came out about 200lbs over the same factory build withthe same options..

200# over factory and MUCH better quality, nicely done!

Back from my 10 day Death Valley shake up cruise.Things seemed to all stay in place even after the 60 mile Racetrack washboard ride.I guess those L brackets really do work.Wife was warm and happy the Atwood 8012 furnace worked great and the battery voltage was sitting at 12.60 in the morning.Did pickup 2 LED lights in Quartzite on the way home..Each have 30 LED's on them and really light up the camper. Will start to build the overhead cabinet for the passenger side and might put one over the A/C also.Need also to finish my tilting arms for the solar panels to take advantage of the low winter sun.

Put my tilt arms on my solar panels today.Should help me get a few more amp hr. each day.
