My husband I just discovered this forum and hoping some of you can help.

We are seriously thinking about purchasing the camper shell and have a few questions. We have never been inside one and would like to make a decision by next weekend so we could purchase one at the Tacoma RV Show. So here are our questions:

1) Is the factory bed firm or soft?

2) Where does the unit have to be returned for warranty work? We live in Salem, OR and wondering if we would have to return it to CA if we had any problems.

3) Any problem with leaking? It will have to sit in the rain during the winter and wondering if anyone has reported any problems after a few years of use.

Thanks so much!

Robin

1. I would call the bed cushions soft - but that is subjective. I would prefer a firmer pad to sleep on.

2. As far as I know, warranty work would have to be done in california. However, I have had non-warranty work (my fault damage) done at local RV shops with no problems.

3. I live in Bend, so the climate is a lot drier over here. I have kept my camper outside for the last 1.5 years in snow and occasional rain and have never had any leaks. However, a camper like this is a big investment and if I lived on the wet side of the mountains, I'd definately tie a good tarp over the camper in the winter while it's being stored. That much water isn't good for anything.

The wife and I find the bed on the extended cab-over very comfortable. The foam on the regular cab-over is halve as thick and on our first FWC we didn't like it. The fold out settee is very comfortable to. I've slept on both, of course this is a matter of person opinion. I highly recommend getting the extended cab-over. With this option you don't pull out the bed.

No leaks so far,

I would talk to the factory about warranty work outside of California, Who knows!

My understanding about warranty work after talking to the salesman was that the work needs to be performed at the factory for the camper itself. Any accessories, frig, heater & etc, are covered by the manufacturer warranty and can be repaired at most RV shops. FWC can tell you where to have these items repaired in your area.
