Could someone tell me the outside measurement on an older 80's-90's Ranger?
Specifically the width where the bottom of the camper fits in the wheel wells in the bed. If I measured my pickup right it is only 44". That is on my Jeep Comanche. Which should be the same as a mid to late 80's Dodge Dakota. Can anybody help me out? Thanks...

The older rangers also have the tail lights and wings on them. Unless they were built for a Dakota then they were removed. inside measurements of the wings should be around 65 1/2 ish. The wings can be cut off along with the lights with very little welding and a small amount of wood work. Then replace the lower side trim and presto you have a good looking camper that fits more trucks than it did from the factory. Good luck finding one. I think those will be slim pickings.

Have a nice day, Marty

Comanche...

Cap'n....
Our last truck waas a Jeep Comanche and that is how we got our Eagle shell. It came on the Jeep and it fit perfect. Our camper has the wings and lights and they fit good on both the Comanche and the '94 Mazda.

My Comanche is the long bed and it is 7.5 ft in length. That's why I am looking for a Ranger. Sounds like you had a short bed, 6 ft. If I can I would like to get the most floor space for the buck. Might go for a big Ford 4X4 and a Grandby some day. For now I do just fine in my Ford Sportsmobile. It is also a 4X4. So I'll keep looking for the illusive "Ranger"...:D

Yeah Cap'n, your sportsmobile is a fine machine. I like them fine and if I were a single man I would definately be using a van-type rig. I really like them. I once owned a '91 Ford E250 with a 4wd conversion done by an outfit near Portland, OR. I don't remember the name but it was really nice. It did not have an extended roof so it was limited for me but I sold it to a wheelchair bound guy and he had it redone for his lift and to be able to drive it right from his chair. Once his caregiver put him in his chair, he was free to go anywhere....and he loved that. They actually raised the body a couple of inches so his chair would drop into a space where the drivers seat used to be...it was quite a nifty setup.
