Just brought home this 97' Ranger 2 on my 98' Ford Ranger. It is in need of some TLC, but plan on striping out the interior for a rebuild. It would not fit my bed, so I went ahead and removed the "wings". Thanks to Pods, that was a easy task! Critters chewed up the vinyl and interior, so it looks like I will be busy. We picked this up on our move from Mukilteo, WA to Scottsdale, AZ and just used rachet straps for 1300 miles of the trip. I will keep posting pics during my progress. -Skeeter

Sunshine!

Is the heat making you uncomfortable, yet?

We would of stayed if the work was there, but we really missed the Sun and the lack of crowds that the Southwest have. It feels good to feel the sun again!

Cool man, lets see some actual condition photos of that thing. There were some definite worries on the photos I had, wondering how many materialized.

As for the wing removal stuff I was just paying forward the information Stan was nice enough to put together for me when I was talking to him.

looks good to me skeeter. You two Have fun in your new home.

It looks like you will have to use the brake lights on the camper and reposition your license maybe to be legal going down the road.you wouln't want to get pulled over by the sheriff jon brown.

I plan on removing those lights to lighten up the load. Not sure how to do it yet, might be able to use a hack saw. Any ideas?

Probably really depends on where else the structural pieces are since when you cut things back you'd need to stop at one so the new corner is structurally sound. I'd chat with Stan to find out if he knows much about the internal framework in that region of that year camper. Also give Marty/Jeff a call at ATC to see what they recall (I believe these are the guys that were actually building your camper in that era). Or if you want to dive into things if you peel back the siding so you can see what is going on I'm sure something could be figured out.

Are you planning to replace the sideliner? If so are you planning to do it or take it in to ATC or FWC? If you're taking it in you might be able to arrange to have them modify the wings structurally at the same time.

Cool!

Skeeter,

That looks like a great rig! Just enough "fix-up" to have some fun with.

How did the Ranger handle it on the trip south??

Best Wishes

Hey AK snowbird! It handled just great. I drove the Penske rental while the lady drove it all the way from Ashland to Phoenix. Our Ranger only has a 2.5 liter engine but it got it home no problem. I had a trip back east as soon as I got into town so we still have not had the time to clean it. The nice thing about the heat down here is that all of our stuff is dryed out. Will miss the Cascades!

Dry is good too!

Skeeter,

Thought it would do fine! I think you're going to have some fun with that rig there in AZ! We're excited for you two.

We spent about 2 months in NM/AZ/CA/NV, just got back to Juneau a week and a half ago or so. I'm missing the warm/dry. Seems to me the FWC's are a perfect fit for the desert...they thrive there. I posted a couple shots on our first week+ on the travel forum but still have to get the last (2 month) trip write-up and photos done.

Alaska still a possible this summer??

Happy Trails!
