We decided that the cab over on our Fleet with the fold up mattress was still too small. I am 5 ft 6 and my wife is 5-4 so the camper is just a few inches too narrow to sleep stretched out. The bed is 60 inches x 42.
Today I cut a piece of plywood 19 x 60, and 13 x 45.
Will add folding leg brackets and the two pieces will add on to the 42 inch deep fleet bed and will give us a bed 74 inches long and 50 inches wide.
No pictures yet but will post some later.
Will even be able to make coffee from bed.

Right on. If you're looking for new foam the best spot I was able to find pricewise was here: http://www.foambymail.com/

I put in an order from them for some pieces to go with my new bed extension and they should be here later this week so we'll see.

I had an older Fleet model. I did not take any pictures but I made a bigger bed. I made mine the same as the newer FWC slide out.

  • I shortened the side storage box.
  • I put wood runners on the wall and took a piece of plywood cut to size.
  • Took a wood trim and ripped a grove in the back side and inserted the plywood edge into it.
  • Put a plastic trim on the existing bottom edge for the top to slide on.
  • Polyurethane the plywood.
  • Went to fabric store that ordered foam. One slightly thicker than the other. She made covers.
  • When the bed was slid out I had a 2” PVC tube with the end shaped for the slide edge that gave some extra support in the middle for the wide width.
Worked out great and the two of use had plenty of room.

Wish I had pictures.

THE shortening of the storage box sounds like a good idea.
Will see how this mod works.
Will buy the foam at Canadian TIRE, as too expensive to get post up here.
