Point and shoot cameras

I've been using the point and shoot digital cameras for a while now. I tend to buy them used and use them till they stop working. I've gone through several of them, a Panasonic, a Sony, a Nikon, and now I have a Fuji FinePix XP.
There are numerous really good photographers who post in Wander the West, I'm not one. I just want to take photos that represent, document for me where I was and what I saw, and maybe share them with others.
The Fuji FinePix I use now consistently chooses slow shutter speeds, it rarely uses one over 300. That results in too many photos with poor focus; it could be my age (old) contributes also. None of the previous point and shoot cameras consistently used such slow shutter speeds, even using the 'action' or 'sports' mode doesn't seem to get it to use a faster shutter speed.
I buy them used because they are less expensive, and I'm hoping it saves resources from our already challenged environment. It's a sure bet there are thousands of them laying unused in drawers never seeing the light of day. It isn't like I couldn't afford a new one; I think decent ones are available for less then $200.00
I'd appreciate any suggestions for a replacement. My only real requirements are- relatively small size, and rechargeable (non alkaline) batteries.
Thanks,

I currently have a Kodak PixPro FZ152, which I bought several years ago. It cost around $100 at my local Walmart. I bought it mainly for the optical zoom lens.

However, for nearly all my photography, I use my phone. Phone images have far surpassed that of inexpensive digital cameras.

This might be worth a conversation (or a chat session) with a camera store sales person. My favorite store is Pro Photo in Portland. B&H in NYC is huge, but the sales force is knowledgeable. Oregon does not have a sales tax, and I don’t believe Pro Photo charges taxes for shipments to states that do. Ask to make sure.

Tell them your style of shooting, and ask what features you need, and what cameras have those features. Most camera stores have used departments

Thanks for all the feedback.
I went to all the sites referenced. I do have a an old iPhone SE that I replaced and am going to try using that just as a camera. I dropped it and fixing it didn't work out as a dependable phone. Part of my concern with that is battery life but I'll try it and see.
I did buy a Canon DSLR when I moved away from film. I got tired of hauling around the bulk when hiking. I went to the point and shoot long before I got a cell phone. I do realize the modern phones are excellent cameras for the nonprofessional.
I'm going to poke around in a few pawn shops and see what that turns up.

Thanks again for all the info. I did buy one of the Panasonic Lumix. It fits all my requirements and has a good reputation. I realize it won't improve my photography, but I'm hoping it will allow me to end up with more usable photos.
