Last fall on our trip around the Gaspe Peninsula I found out our furnace wouldn't fire up. Finally got around to working on it today. It looks like it might be a gas line problem. I disconnected the propane line just before the regulator and no gas getting through. Is there some kind of "safety" thing in the line or do the lines go bad. I know nothing about this propane stuff , as you can tell .

Lots of safety things. For instance, I found I can crank open a 20# BBQ tank with no hose attached and nothing comes out. I tried filling a Flame King re-fillable #1 tank without the "right" attachments, and propane will not flow through the lines either.

Question: Isn't your regulator attached right to the tank(s)? How can you disconnect the line before the regulator?

Turn the tank valve to close. Remove the supply line from the tank. Reattach the supply line to the tank. Open the valve very slowly. You most likely opened the valve too quickly and closed the safety valve preventing flow.

I did have a problem once with a faulty supply line. Easy test, remove from regulator, attach to propane tank, slowly open valve, propane should flow if working properly. Do this outside, in the open, away from flame, spark. Turn off immediately when propane flow confirmed.

Failed to complete my post. If no propane flows through supply line with the test, it needs to be replaced.

I did the test you described Ski. Looks like I have a faulty line . Waiting for the roads to open up to get to the RV store. Enough snow already!!! LOL!!

I highly doubt there is anything wrong with your line (I mean the literal line downstream of the regulator). First check was as ski3pin noted, make sure the tank safety valve isn't shut. Assuming you have propane in the tank and propane will hiss out of the tank with nothing attached and it just cracked open and then you get nothing once its all reconnected the most likely issue is your regulator has failed.

It was the 2ft line that runs from the tank to the regulator. I learned about opening the tank slowly a long time ago with my bbq , but I won't get into that. Thanks for the replies.

wait, you get propane out if nothing is attached? I just tested that on a brand new full tank... no hiss here.

I could have sworn in the past if cracked slowly it did but I just tried what you tried and nothing came out so false memory on my part.

I had the same issue. Replaced the regulator and it helped for a very short time but then just replaced the hose from the tank to the regulator and it has been working well (fingers crossed).
