I believe you can mount either on a Tacoma or Frontier truck. The Ranger is 8feet long and weighs 780 pounds, while the Eagle is 6.5 feet and weighs 690 pounds. The Ranger costs $200 more. Seems like Ranger would be the more logical choice. Any thoughts? thanks.

If you're going to go with an 8' bed on a truck I'd go with a ranger hands down, if you were going with a shorter bed and trying to hang it off the back I might think a bit harder about it.

If you go with a newer Tacoma or a newer Frontieer, the 6 1/2' foot long Eagle Model will be the best size, fit, and weight for the truck.

(most comfortable set up to drive)

But if you want to beef up the rear suspension up and don't mind the camper sticking pretty far out the back, you could do the 8' foot long Ranger Model.

The Ranger Model will put quite a bit weight behind the rear axel.

The final decesion might depend on where you what to go, and what you want to do with the camper.

Attached are pictures of both combos.

If you are just going on the highway and value space get the larger model. I don't think the added weight behind the axle, possible issues towing, and appearance are worth the benefit of the larger camper.

Input From New Purchaser

I have a brand new Frontier. I bought the Eagle. I love it and the fit is perfect.

I have a fleet which goes right to the end of the tailgate which is 7.5 feet long on my 98 tacoma.
I like having the extra foot of room compared to the eagle and I get to leave the tailgate on with this length.
I don't think I would want 8 feet on my truck it would be just a little longer then the tailgate and would loose floor support by the door of the camper.
A 6.5' eagle would work nice but you will have to take off the tailgate and you loose a foot of space. so that is the downside.
However the eagle is lighter and fits really nice in a tacoma once the tail gate is off. This will depend on the year/make of your truck for size of bed though.
Also that 200 bucks you will save on the eagle could pay for a nice trip or mod.

I Hope you get the one that works best for you and you enjoy it for many years.

I have a Frontier with a small suspension lift and an Eagle sitting on her. handles fine, but the butt ends up sitting a little low while pulling it around. I need to get some bags or a stiffer leaf pack.

Airbags work great on the Frontier/Eagle combo. You can put the back end where you want it.
