Hello, I recently bought a 09 Eagle FWC to put on my second gen Tundra. Previous owner of the camper patched some roof leaks and there are no leaks now, but the roof has seen better days. Most of the white paint is gone and it's down to bare metal.

I am going to paint the roof this week and picked up some Henry's 887 Silicone for RV roofs that you can roll on.

Anyone done this before and have recommendations? I have also seen Rustoleum White Enamel recommended around here, which I plan to use to touch up the camper exterior walls.

Pros of Henry's 887:
  • Good rain/water resistance
  • Good insulation/reflective properties

Cons of Henry's 887:
  • Could be heavier, making it hard to lift up
  • Once you cover it in silicone, it's hard to remove and any future coats or patches should be the same material

Appreciate any helpful input!

I used the Tropi-cool on my roof and I've been very satisfied with the results. It goes a long ways. Probably not more than two gallons so minimal weight gain.

I know folks with membrane roofs on trailers sometime apply this. As you have noted future stuff doesn't stick well to silicone so plan ahead on any sealing touch ups and such.

Good luck on your choice.

If you add more weight on the roof and need some struts for assistance, you can start on page 21 ( that is where the link starts) of the post below. The FWC YouTube video will get you going and what you need to do for install yourself.

Thanks all for the notes. Think I will go with the Henry's 887 Tropicool. I'll post here with the results after it's done.

Following up with some photos of the camper roof:

Used an electric power washer to get the dirt off.

Taped and painted in the garage.

Two coats of tropicool later. I also used Rustoleum white enamel rattle cans to put a couple coats on the side of the camper and the roof latches that were rusting out.

Before I applied the silicone Tropicool I used Dicor sealant all the way around the edges. I also used Dicor self leveling sealant around the roof vent.

Still not perfect, but better than before. Hopefully it will keep us dry in the wet northwest winter!

Thanks for the follow up! Looks great. The rustoleum on my roof is chipping off like crazy and was looking for an alternative.
