I'm working on the eastern San Juan Mountains at the moment, where the following image that Stew posted caught my eye. Stew, maybe you can tell us more about this artifact!

Hi T-Dawg,

Can't say much about the grinding stones except that tourists visiting Chimney Rock seemed to enjoy milling with them.

It's a two-part device: the mano is the small stone and the metate is the large, dished stone. The Anasazi used them to grind corn into meal. We often see broken metates in ruins around SE Utah, and rarely see them completely intact, such as the one in Stew's pic.
