I see lots of pics of 1st generation Tundras on the site. What year is your truck and how many have the V-6 motor, either the 3.4 or the 4.0? How many of you have the 4.7 V-8? Do you wish you had more power?

I carried my Hawk for a couple of years on my 2000 Tundra with 4.7 V8. Way too under powered and dangerous braking distances. Upgraded to a 3/4 ton truck....much happier now.

2006 AC TRD Tundra V8.
I bought the truck three years ago at 60k, now have 98k with camper on 50% time.
Just did the timing belt and water pump, as standard maintenance.
Wore out a first set of BFG AT's in three years too. It costs money to maintain a middle aged rig.
(I know, Toyotas go 200k! ).

Plenty of power, IMHO. I can walk slow in 4W lo, or pass a semi on the freeway with the Hawk on the back.
Wishes: better mileage than 14mpg and crisper brakes.

I should also note I love having this truck unloaded as a daily driver. Compared to a full size rig it's easier to park. If you want to get up and go on the freeway, it's a demon. Frankly, it's more power that I need unloaded.

We traded our 2005 Tacoma for a 2005 Tundra with 80K last April. Truck has the 4.7L with auto transmission (Access Cab). Just put on about 2K miles with the ATC Ocelot and found the power and braking fine. Interstates, two lanes and slow back roads. Averaged 14 to 15 mpg depending more on passes than speed it seemed. So far, so good (did put Michelin LTX AT2 tires on also).

I had a 2004 with the 4.7 with air intake and exhaust lots of pep unloaded but became a real dog loaded.

2005 Tundra Access Cab 4.7 V8, 4x4 TRD package. Bought new, just the right size truck for me, my friend says it is 7/8 of a full size truck.

I've got the same truck plus a few Ivan Stewart options. Just turned 100,000 , bought it with 57,000 in August last year. I drive it alot. The little v8 does well, hauls my loaded 1400-1500 lbs Hawk shell just fine. I do want to up grade both in the near future. Bigger truck, loaded popup.

Our camper went on a 2000 Tundra with the 285 hp V8. Power seemed ok except when using the cruise control - it would hunt for the right gear a lot. Biggest complaint was we went through two sets of rear axle bearings at close to $1000 each time. That said, we are Toyota fans and our camper now runs on a 2011 Tundra.

2006 Tundra with 4.7L V8. Doesn't seem to have any problems with the Hawk aboard except perhaps with the fuel economy as others mention. So much better than my old '91 Toy PU (pre-Tacoma) with the 3.0 V6. No complaints here.
